bhan kanom thai dessert.

there's a dessert spot in the heart of Thai Town, Hollywood that we go to once in a while. they have the best thai desserts anywhere. it's in the little plaza on Hollywood Blvd. where Palms used to be, across the street from Sanamluang, and it's called Bhan Kanom Thai.

Aren't these Thai bean cakes sooo cute? I haven't tried these yet, but they look sooo adorable. almost too cute to eat!

they have these bomb "Thai tacos" as we call it.  It's actually called Thai Crispy Pancake. think of a sweet taco, with a crispy crepe as the shell, with coconut milk as the sauce, and sweet coconut as the filling. these are made fresh every day, you can see them making 'em right before your eyes. it's crispy on the outside, super chewy on the inside. not too sweet, and has a lil bit of saltiness added to it. Adrian's cousin Rion from the Philippines once told us that Thai food centers around these four flavors: sweet, salty, spicy, and sour. so even the dessert has a salty touch. it's so damn good. these are adrian's fave. he can eat like a hundred of these at a time. they go for like 13 for 4 bucks. not bad.
my fave is Panchi, which is made up of taro, sugar, and shredded coconut. yumm. they are like coconut pancakes. mixed with ube!
and check out these little cuties. they are similar to the Filipino dessert Kutchinta. aren't they cute?
they have tons of other goodies, such as mango with sticky rice, fried bananas, ice cream in all kinds of flavors (coconut milk, taro, red bean), and a Thai version of Halo Halo.

A big plus: they open late. so when you got some late night munchies or you just comin home late from partying or wherever. they open till about 2am. be sure to park in the lot. tell the valet guys u just gettin' some dessert, and will only take 5 minutes. they won't charge u.

just got back from thailand... and had lots of the crispy pancakes.... some are filled with marshmallow creme... you would be happy to know that they are the same price in thailand.... 1 = 10 Baht. $1 = 35 Baht. So about .30 cents each. glad to know they have these in LA.
